    Icing Effects on Power Lines and Anti-icing and De-icing Methods

    Icing on power lines may lead to compromise safety and reliability of electric supply network. Prolong icing can lead to power breakdown and collapse of towers. Since power transmission lines are mostly overhead and could face the direct impact of icing, and it is one of the main challenges faced by power distribution companies in cold regions. When the ice accretion crosses the safety limit then deicing action can be carried out. We can find number of deicing methods that are used in different parts of the world. However, all of these deicing techniques have their own advantages and disadvantages on implementation. It is one of the most difficult as well as dangerous process to perform deicing on power lines. If a fault is detected and that has been occurred due to icing or during routine maintenance, extra care must be taken in order to ensure safety of the personals when performing de-icing of lines. However, as technology evolved, new ways and techniques are adopted with the help of sensors that give quick feedback to control room in the national grid via wireless communication network for real time action. In the thesis we have discussed atmospheric icing impacts on power lines in the cold regions across the world. A literature review has been done for anti-icing and deicing methods that are currently adopted in the power distribution network. Methods that are used against ice buildups have also been analyzed. This work also shows the impacts of icing and deicing techniques presently adopted, and also throws light on their pros and cons during maintenance operations. It provides an overview of the evolving technology trends that are practiced to ensure the availability of existing power transmission system in cold climate regions

    Population Density of Grey Francolin (Franclinus Pondicrianus L.) in District Tando Allahyar, Sindh, Pakistan

    The population density of Grey Francolin (Franclinus Pondicrianus L.) is distributed throughout the Baluchistan, KKPK, Punjab, and Indus plains of Sindh Province, Pakistan. The grey francolin is a prime game bird of our country. This species has been declared threatened worldwide according to the Red Data Book, also published by the International Union for Conservation of Nature in 2018. There is no information available regarding the density of the population of Grey francolin in different populations in the district of Tando Allahyar, Sindh, Pakistan. Keeping this in mind, the present study was carried out to find the density population of Grey francolin birds in the habitat area to observe the conservation measurements. The study was conducted through direct sighting with the help of local residents of the particular areas using the Visual Encounter Method. The observations were recorded at three fixed transects, with a length of 300 to 350 m and a width of 30 to 60 m laid down at every site for recording the birds by nearest line. In Tando Allahyar, Sindh, Pakistan, the population density of Grey francolin varies significantly based on breeding practices and habitat characteristics. The observed densities were 0.90 birds per hectare in cultivated open land and 0.16 birds per hectare in wetland and associated natural vegetation. This suggests a notable influence of habitat and breeding practices on Grey francolin population

    Analysis determinants of social media acceptance in higher educational institution of Pakistan

    Seen through the lens of the education sector social media grew a ital source of academic learning. The learning through social media occurs mainly through the collaborative approach to information sharing, where the web-based social networking sites provide the optimal platform for knowledge enhancing among colleagues, co-workers, and others. Developed economies have already recognized the significant value of learning through social media. However, developing economies such as Pakistan did not yet interpret future implications and real benefits of social aided learning. This research focuses on determining significant factors through an integrated framework that features broadly recognized technology models such as technology acceptance model (TAM) and innovation diffusion theory (IDT). The subjects of framework tested were students in higher education institutions that use social media, and the sample size was 350 students. Data analysis results, reached via SPSS software, were substantially in fever of extended model. Results reached through this study, in terms of factors with a significant influence on social media acceptance rate in Pakistani higher education institutions, are particularly crucial for students in the filed of education, located in developing countries. This should assist the increasing acceptance and use of technological solutions, benefiting both faculty and students

    Investigation of Performance and Emission Characteristics of CI Engine Using Diesel and Waste Cooking Oil Blends

    Reusing waste cooking oil (WCO) as fuel in compression ignition (CI) engine offers a sustainable solution for energy scarcity and environmental protection. WCO and n-pentanol ternary blends deliver are attractive prospects in utilization as bio-components and recycled components to moderately substitute diesel fuel. The current study intends to investigate the performance and emission characteristics of a single cylinder CI engine, having constant load at a uniform speed of 1300 rpm, using diesel-waste cooking oil n-pentanol blends. Blends chosen and analogized with diesel oil as reference fuel and their contents were the following: (1) D95-WCO5 (95%vol. diesel, WCO5%vol. waste cooking oil, (2) D65-WCO20-Pe15 (65%vol. diesel, 20%vol. waste cooking oil, and 15%vol. n-pentanol) and (3) D60-WCO20-Pe20 (60%vol. diesel, 20%vol. waste cooking oil and 20%vol. n-pentanol). The experimental results revealed that with the DF95-WCO5 blend the BSFC improved by 0.32%. However, with the addition of n-pentanol as a ternary blend; DF65-WCO20-Pe15 and DF60-WCO20-Pe20 resulted in improvements of 0.49% and 0.68% respectively. The BTE for DF95-WCO5 increased by 38.7%, while the increase was 39.2% for DF65-WCO20-Pe15 and 39.6% for DF60-WCO20-Pe20, which was less, as compared with diesel fuel. The lowermost level of CO discharge was achieved when the engine was fueled with DF65-WCO20-Pe15 and DF60-WCO20-Pe20, due to the highest level of saturation. CO2, in the cases of DF65-WCO20-Pe15 and DF60-WCO20-Pe20, increased, as compared to diesel fuel under the same engine operating conditions. However, the binary blend DF95-WCO5 resulted in decreased CO2 as analogized to diesel, because of incomplete combustion of the fuel. During experimental work it could be observed that the DF95-WCO5 binary blend produced higher Particulate material (PM-1, PM-2.5, PM-7 and PM-10) emissions, compared to DF100. Moreover, with the addition of n-pentanol as a ternary blend in the ratio of 15 to 20%, emission was further reduced. This indicated that direct exertion of WCO in engines must be promoted, as it is an impressive choice for waste recapture
